ARRHYTHMIA SUPPORT NETWORK

Traditional ICD systems comprise the generator and  transvenous leads and have sensing, anti-bradycardia and anti-tachycardia pacing, and shocking capabilities.

Some patients with no venous access like complex congenital heart disease and those who do not require pacing function from ICD may benefit from this new device. It does not involve venous access and placement of intravenous leads and provides defibrillation for patients at risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular tachyarrhythmias.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM IT

Subcutaneous ICD at present only for patients with

  • No venous access
  • High risk of complications for TV-ICD
  • High risk of infections
  • Channelopathies (LQT, Brugada, HCM)
